Northwest Climate Peace Hub: A Climate Security Approach to Conflict Prevention

Earlier this month, Building Blocks for Peace Foundation (BBFORPEACE) landed in Sokoto and Katsina for a climate security project aimed at combating conflict and insecurity induced by the impacts of climate change such as, environmental degradation, desertification, degraded pastures, and drought in Northwestern Nigeria.

BBFORPEACE is implementing viable climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives, including: capacity-building training for 500 youths on Dialogue, Mediation, Reconciliation, Climate Adaptation, and Early Warning and Early Response (EWER); establishing climate and conflict EWER structures; and supporting climate activists with micro-grants which will be dedicated to planting of trees in strategic areas that are experiencing desert encroachment.

In Illela border town in Sokoto State, the 250 participants of this climate security training were between ages 15-45, including people with disabilities.

Ijeoma Seraphie Obiedelu, the gender officer for this project, ensured gender balance was factored into the sessions as well as fair representation from the communities.

It was delightful to see the immediate comprehension of the participants as Ijeoma conducted the post evaluation sessions to assess their level of understanding of the training. There were interesting questions asked about conflict sensitivity and how one can mediate a multifaceted conflict situation for example a conflict that has both political and religious elements embedded in it. They were also keen as to how climate change affects their general standard of living including the crime rate. Overall, the results of the post evaluation session revealed an impressive 74% comprehension rate.😊😊

This project is sponsored by United Nations Development Programme Nigeria and the Embassy of Norway in Nigeria.

5 Reasons to avoid Sportybet ahead of the Euro2024 and Olympics

Euro2024 is now just a few days away so you know it’s another opportunity to cash out backing the likes of Portugal, Spain, England and France to clear the group stages. But before you load up your Sportybet account, here are 5 reasons why you should totally avoid Sportybet.

  1. Sportybet is currently owing customers over 950m in unpaid winnings

According to several media outlets and petitions filed to the EFCC, Police Special Fraud Unit, Police Force Intelligence and Investigation Department, NLRC and other agencies, by aggrieved customers, Sportybet is currently accused of owing about 114 customers over 950m and refusing to pay them their legitimate winnings. Many of these customers have taken to social media and granted media interviews to explain their predicament about how the company not only refused to pay their hard earned winnings but also closed their accounts unjustly and without explanation.

  1. They blocked accounts of customers after they won money on their platform

In order to avoid paying these customers, Sportybet immediately blocked their accounts after winning. Imagine risking your money and winning a big bet during the Euro 2024 or Olympics and then Sportybet closes your account after refusing to pay you. It is best to avoid the platform until they start operating with integrity.

  1. Sportybet accused customers of playing “fake odds” to avoid paying out winnings.

Imagine you staked N500 and won N50m– then Sportybet comes forward to say they won't pay you because you played “fake odds” on their platform. As ridiculous as it sounds, that’s exactly what they are currently doing– denying over 100 customers access to their winnings totaling over 950m and accusing them of playing “fake odds” and using “bot technology”. What does that even mean? Better safe than sorry. Avoid Sportybet and stories that touch if you know what’s good for you.

  1. Sportybet is playing dirty and knows exactly what it is doing.

After locking the accounts of punters who have won money on the platform, Sportybet through its customer care is asking for ridiculous documents like “Skype ID” before unlocking accounts. SKYPE ID. Who uses Skype in Nigeria? And how should that affect verification? Even after customers explain they don’t use Skype, Sportybet insists that the accounts won’t be unlocked because failure to provide ANY requested information would lead to continued punishment. Now imagine you win 80m and they close your account. And then tell you to bring a document showing that you own the house you’re living in– meanwhile you’re just a tenant. That means your money has gone, according to Sportybet. Absolute disgrace. To make matters worse, even after providing Skype ID, the accounts remain closed.

  1. IT experts have called out the company’s lies

After claiming that customers played “fake odds” using “bot technology”, independent indigenous and international IT experts have come forward to rubbish those claims and explained why it is impossible for anyone to create, publish and play fake odds on Sportybet or any other betting platform.

Unless Sportybet pays the money it owes to its customers and is able to demonstrate strong financial health to redeem player winnings– it is better to look for another betting platform for your Euro2024 adventure. The worst thing that could happen is that you finally get a big breakthrough that could change your life forever, and Sportybet refuses to pay you claiming you played “fake odds”.

Jackson Ude accuses CBN Deputy Governor, Bala Bello of academic fraud

Jackson Ude, anti-corruption activist has accused a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bala Bello, of academic fraud.

In a post on X on Monday, titled “BALA BELLO: THE MOST PADDED ACADEMIC FRAUD IN CBN!”, Jackson Ude said “The Deputy Governor, Corporate, of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Bala Bello, is an academic fraud. He managed to obtain a Bachelor degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, but has all through been lying that he has an MBA from same institution. Bello should provide the date he enrolled for the MBA program and the date he graduated. He should make his certificate public. Aye e ti fe ba je ba yi oo.”

“Not done with his academic fraud, Bello tells his friends and associates that he has a PhD. On his CBN profile, he listed the PhD as Honoris Causa from some obscure and unknown universities one of which is from Republic of Benin, a haven for fake universities. Bello should tell us how much he paid for those Honoris Causa. Aye e ti fe ba je ba yi ooo.

Commonwealth University where Bello bought another PhD Honoris Causa has been declared fake by the Federal Government during the Mohammadu Buhari’s time.
Bello has no Master’s degree, has no PhD but he is busy sacking Masters and PhD holders from the CBN who got those jobs through merit.
I will wait for Bello to respond before I him to the garbage bin!” Jackson Ude further said.

“FIRS CHAIRMAN, ADEDEJI, SQUANDERS N3.5BILLION ON BULLETPROOF SUVs, GOES ON A JAMBOREE TRIP TO LONDON WITH 15 AIDES”, JACKSON UDE ALLEGES

Zach Adedeji, FIRS Chairman

“At a time Bola Tinubu’s Government has refused to increase minimum wage for workers who are still at N30k (about $20) per month, the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue, FIRS, Zach Adedeji, allegedly squandered over N3.5billion of tax payers money on six Lexus LX600 Bulletproof SUVs recently.
“Not done with his jamboree, Adedeji flew 15 out of his almost 50 Aides to London where they were partying, jumping from club to club for days,” Jackson Ude, an anti-corruption activist said on Sunday via his X handle.
“Insiders told me Adedeji has been moving funds to London where he is acquiring choice properties, using one of his trusted Aide called Juwon.
“Angry insiders further revealed that Adedeji who might end up as the most corrupt FIRS Chairman, padded his office with several Aides who are at Directors levels such as a Chief of Staff, SA Special Duties, SA Technical, SALogistics, SAFacility Management, SA Prosecution, SA Legal, SA Human Capital, SA Tax Matters,  SA Customer Centricity , SA Communications and Advocacy,  SA New Media, SA Digital Media, SA ICT, SA Medium Tax Matters, SA Large Tax Matters, SA Small Tax Matters, Principal Private Secretary,  Protocol, all Directorate cadre. On top of that, he has 5 Personal Assistants.
“Only recently, Adedeji allegedly collected millions of dollars in kickbacks to help the South African owned Multichoice evade over $1.5billion in taxes owed Nigeria over several years,” Jackson Ude further said.
